While I was shopping this afternoon, a lady came up to me and asked if I was new to the area. I said no, I’ve lived here about half my life.
She then replied, “And you still shop at Trigo’s?”
I said, “yeah. I shop in Terrace a lot but I come here once in a while. It’s close, you can find all kinds of stuff here.”
I wasn’t sure why she was asking me this or why I was explaining myself. I felt no need to continue the conversation so I walked away. It just seemed strange.
Here is this woman, who I’ve never seen in my life, basically passing judgement on me for shopping in a local store that she herself is also shopping in.
While it’s true that there’s not much here in Kitimat in the way of shopping, I still come to a lot of the local stores. I don’t see any problem with that.
Maybe she knows something about the store or the owner that I don’t know about. Maybe she has some kind of problem with them; what that could be, I have no clue.
I also thought of the possiblility that she was flriting with me but for one thing, I wasn’t interested and for another, she appeared to be there with a guy when I saw her later so that wasn’t likely.
That was a weird situation and that’s the reason I try to avoid talking to people I don’t know. You never know what that person’s going to say but it’s probably going to be weird.
Jim Morrison said it best: people are strange.
Sometime last night or this morning, I had a dream where I was walking around outside. I was walking behind two people (a man and a woman) and as a joke I decided to yell “HEY!” at them.
They were both startled; the man was so scared that he started to run away. As he fled, he looked back and realized he was not in danger and tried to play it off as though he was just getting warmed up to go for a run. He started running in one spot and stretching, trying to cover up his embarrassment.
Both me and the girl that he was with started laughing.
At this point, I woke up from my dream and realized that I actually was laughing.
I replayed the dream over in my head and each time I did, I laughed even harder. I re-imagined the scene with myself asking “fight or flight?” and then answering “flight.”
I must’ve laid in bed laughing for about five minutes before I went back to sleep.
It reminded me of that Seinfeld episode where Jerry thought of something funny when he was dreaming, woke up and wrote it down. Then when he woke up he couldn’t read what he wrote. Nobody could decipher what he wrote, one interpretation was “fax me some halibut.”
Later, Jerry’s watching TV and a bad sci-fi movie is playing where someone yells out “flaming globes of Sigmund!” and he realizes that this is the phrase that he wrote down.
I don’t recall ever having an experience like that from a dream before.
A few years ago, when I started blogging, I started a Tumblr site called Synaptic Wanderings. Originally, I just used the default Tumblr domain name because it was free.
At various times, I have thought of getting my own domain name and moving the blog there. The problem was, I couldn’t get the domain name that I wanted.
Now, I finally have it and this blog is now under the domain name of synapticwanderings.com
This blog is an amalgamation of my original Tumblr site and this WordPress site which was originally just called Ab’s Blog. The original domain name, abmoha.wordpress.com is still active and redirects here, but the new domain name is the primary one.
I’ve renamed this blog, reclaiming the original Synaptic Wanderings title. It’s a phrase I came up with a long time ago and it basically means “random thoughts”. That’s what this blog was always meant to be.
I’m pumped about this. I finally got this domain name and another one that I wasn’t able to get before. I might get a few more domain names that I’ve been wanting but I’ll wait a while before doing that. These domain names were fairly cheap but they do add up.
So come on in and have a look around. Let your synapses do the walking.
